JOCHIS

"Jochis" (or jochi) is a relatively new Mexican slang term that has become popular, especially on TikTok and within younger LGBTQ+ communities. It's a softened, playful version of "joto," a word that was historically used as a slur for gay men in Mexico.

Over time, many LGBTQ+ Mexicans reclaimed the word by changing it to "jochi" or "jochis," using it affectionately among friends—similar to how some communities reclaim words that were once insults. Today, you might hear people say:

• "Hola, jochis!" (Hey, gays!/Hey, friends!)
• "Es bien jochi." (He's gay.) — often in a lighthearted, non-insulting way, depending on the context.
